An extract from the GOOGLE unofficial blog
Google Chrome is not out of beta because it's ready, but because Google wants to sign some deals with computer manufacturers like Dell that will preinstall the browser. " The Google's open source browser has a number of eager customers, including OEMs who can't offer the browser until it is in full release," mentions TechCrunch. Even German's Federal Office for Information Security said that Google's browser is not for general use because it's still in beta. If that's price to increase the adoption, then Google didn't have to do much: just pretend that Chrome is ready for prime-time.

Google Chrome 1.0 Released

"We've heard a lot of feedback about product bugs and feature requests and have worked hard to prioritize work on them. We're excited to announce that with today's fifteenth release we are taking off the "beta" label," explains a post from Google Chrome Help Announcement blog. Ironically, the post doesn't look very well in Chrome.

On the day of the launch of the GOOGLE chrome browser, GOOGLE had very proudly shown how fast chrome was when compared to other browsers (including firefox). But MOZILLA has come out with its own set of results comparing the FIREFOX version 3.1 (to be released by this year end) with that of chrome and clearly defeating the later.
  • Google showed performance results using its own collection of five JavaScript benchmarks and V8, Chrome's JavaScript engine, but Mozilla countered with a different test called SunSpider.
  • "We're very much in the game and moving fast--'reports of our death are greatly exaggerated,'" JavaScript pioneer and TraceMonkey coder Brendan Eich said in a blog. And noting Firefox's higher score, he said, "Maybe we should rename TraceMonkey 'V10' ;-)"
  • In Mozilla's test that pitted TraceMonkey-enhanced Firefox against the
Chrome beta, Google's browser was 28 percent slower on Windows XP and
16 percent slower on Windows Vista.

Google co-founder Sergey Brin speaks at the Chrome browser launch event.Google's Co-founder Sergey Brin talking at the launch of Google's new Chrome browser; said that he expected that Chrome would eventually make it to the Android platform, Google's operating system for mobiles. Though Chrome and Android were developed separately but Brin hopes that Android is definitely going to take up some of the features of Chrome.
Like Chrome Android's current browser employs WebKit technology, an open-source project for the process of interpreting the HTML code that makes up a Web page and rendering it on a screen.

The Chrome Browser was a surprise for most of us. The main reason was that nobody had expected it .But the quick launch was followed by features that caught me by surprise - its super fast, has quick responses and low memory consumption.

Lets go onto a detailed analysis of the experience. After downloading and installing Chrome , the first surprise that i got instantly is that it had not only pulled my bookmarks from firefox but also history of theAwesome Bar. Another surprise - no menu bar instead it has the tabs at the top of the screen above the URL bar and there is no search box!!!

No menu-bar at the top

All browsers we have dealt with till date have an entire bar at the top where we get a whole lot of options to make the browsing experience personalized. But surprisingly the new Chrome browser does not have any menu bars , instead it has the tabs bar in that place. However the lack of these options gives the Chrome a clean interface and Google wanted it that way only .
